The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist has pulled in an impressive sum of box office cash, considering it’s an R-rated horror film. Even though The Conjuring has come to be known as a major player in the horror genre for Hollywood, the sequel and spinoff films have also shown that audiences worldwide are taking chances and showing up for the movie in theaters.
According to the latest numbers just updated on Box Office Mojo, they clearly show that The Conjuring 2 is in line to be one of the highest grossing movies of the year and just as strong as its predecessor at the box office.

At the domestic box office, The Conjuring 2 sits at number 10 on the all-time horror list with its predecessor sitting comfortably at number 5. As of today, The Conjuring 2 has pulled in $101 million, which is over $35 million shy of The Conjuring.

But both The Conjuring movies pale in comparison to the 1973 release of The Exorcist, which pulled in nearly $233 million in the U.S. But when adjusted for inflation, The Exorcist pulled in over $957 million, which is more than Star Wars: The Force Awakens made in 2015.
The other spinoff film from The Conjuring franchise, Annabelle, banked $84 million in the U.S. and $256 million worldwide.
It is no surprise that The Conjuring producers have announced yet another sequel and spinoff film for the franchise. Given the amount of controversy that has been surrounding The Conjuring 2, it also comes as no surprise that it is making so much around the world either.

Since The Conjuring 2 started off with the Amityville case file from the Warrens, it is actually possible that a spinoff film from that case could be made as well. But James Wan has said that he does not like to use content that has already been used many times over.

Just consider what part of the Amityville case that the Warrens investigated, though. Although it was the Lutz family that made the case famous with the haunting, it was the DeFeo family before them that were actually murdered in their sleep by the older brother. So it is safe to assume that The Conjuring franchise could spinoff an Amityville film that focuses solely on the DeFeo’s.
