Friday the 13th has long been teased for yet another remake in the series. But the film has some new details that have come down the pipe – and they are quite interesting to say the least.

For those who are new to this project, the original theory that had been floating around the internet was that Friday the 13th was going to be remade again with a “found footage” style of filmmaking, kind of like The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity. There were initially mixed reactions to that theory.

But that theory has now been debunked and a new report from The Reel Word confirms that the reboot of the Friday the 13th franchise will start with a prequel, or an “origin” story for Jason and Pamela Voorhees, according to the producer, Brad Fuller.
“There was a lot of found-footage scripts that they wanted us to make and I was not going to do that because I don’t think that can exist in Jason Voorhees’ world,” Fuller told The Reel Word.
Fuller vetted industry writer Aaron Guzikowski to pen the new screenplay for the Friday the 13th reboot film, and what he delivered was something that Fuller and others attached to the project loved.
“Aaron’s story has great characters,” Fuller said. “You kind of have to understand Jason Voorhees, so we go back and we kind of started over and work our way forward.”
That did seem to say that the story essentially remakes the franchise in the same way that Rob Zombie handled the remake of Halloween – by giving the masked killer a childhood presence onscreen so that fans of the series can get a feel for how he was brought up and what transformed him into a homicidal maniac.

But it fell short of actually saying that the Friday the 13th reboot was an origin story, so he was asked flat out if it was going to be.
“Origin-ish, but it’s an origin that no one has seen before,” Fuller said. “Obviously Pamela’s there, but it’s a little bit different from what you’ve seen before.”
