Krypton is the latest in a series of DC Comic related media ventures outside of the comic book arena. With the emerging DC Cinematic Universe and DC TV Universe, the next TV show to enter the gauntlet is this prequel to the Superman franchise that focuses on life for the alien race back on the home planet, Krypton.

According to Entertainment Weekly, their sources tell them that the deal for Krypton is about to be tied up and the show will be moving forward on the cable network. Syfy has always struggled with its original programming, but they have been able to push out a few hits.
What the DC TV Universe can do for a struggling cable network could be paralleled with what they are doing for the struggling broadcast network, The CW. Shows like The Flash, Arrow and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow have brought The CW back from the brink.

Krypton is said to be set two generations before Clark Kent, or Superman, with his grandfather playing the top character on the show. The premise of the show is basically the politics of Krypton. His “House of El” has been shamed and he must defy the odds to bring his family out of darkness and back to the respect they once had.
Although most of the details have not yet been released for Krypton, it is quite clear that there will be no yellow sun to give them their powers. So it is unclear if their will be any of the classic superhero action in the show. But it is safe to assume that DC will find some way to incorporate it.
There has been no word yet as to when Krypton will go into production, nor when it is expected to premiere on the cable network.
