One thing that is apparent right from the onset of the trailer for The Girl With All The Gifts is that this was never going to play out like the American version of zombies in horror film and TV. The is based off the best selling novel by M.R. Carey, which was most well known in the U.K. where the fictional story took place.
Set in a world that is already ravaged by zombies, the film starts out in a military installation in the U.K. and brings a whole new flavor that helps define what a zombie is, at least the British version of these monstrous cannibals.
The Girl With All The Gifts is about a girl who seems to be a hybrid of some sort. She looks and appears normal, but her and her classmates are much more than the harmless children they appear to be. They are restrained and wheeled into a classroom in wheelchairs where they take lessons from a teacher who is not allowed to touch them in any way.
