The Tales From The Crypt reboot is a passion project for filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan on TNT. Even though he had gotten his green light to produce a two-hour horror block on the cable network, there has long been a major issue that was nothing but a thorn in the side, until now.
“People are strange!”
Even though Shyamalan and TNT have been trekking forward with developing Tales From The Crypt on the cable network, some new details have emerged that seems to put out the fan fire.
When speaking to Kevin Reilly at Turner’s upfront presentation, Deadline got the sad news out of him that horror fans have been dreading for months now. But there might also be some good news to come out of it as well.
“That one (Tales From The Crypt) got really caught up in a complete legal mess unfortunately with a very complicated underlying rights structure,” Kevin Reilly said. “We lost so much time, so I said, ‘Look, I’m not waiting around four years for this thing,’ Maybe that will come back around but in the meantime, Ridley Scott had come up, who has so much creative enthusiasm.”

That’s right horror fans, it’s official. You will no longer get to look forward to the reboot of Tales From The Crypt on TNT… at least for 2017 or in the next four years. But then again, who really wanted a Tales From The Crypt on TNT anyway, given all the censoring they would have likely done to it as opposed to its original home on HBO?
“Vintage horror fiction!”
There might be some good news that has come of all this fiasco surrounding the cancellation of Tales From The Crypt. It appears as though another horror veteran will be stepping in to fill the horror block. That comes in the form of Alien director Ridley Scott.
As you read in his statement, Ridley Scott has come forward with TNT and they are now partnering for a sci-fi block of programming for the cable network. Although it is not horror, it is a first-cousin of our beloved genre.
